Coups in Africa
2024
This project visualizes 75 years of coups in Africa, combining geographical data with historical context to offer an engaging view of political unrest across the continent. The map was designed to accompany an article in De Volkskrant, providing readers with a clear understanding of the regions currently experiencing turmoil.
I used a stylish digital elevation model as the base layer, overlaid with a choropleth map that highlights areas of conflict. Annotations guide the viewer through key hotspots, while a timeline chart offers additional context, tracking the progression of these events over time.
